Princess Anna’s ballgown

This ballgown is a labour of love that took over 18 months to complete. I wanted a technical challenge, to push the limits of crochet – I am also a huge Frozen fan. I took crochet to the next level by making a complete ballgown, as well as a necklace and cuddly snowman.

The embroidery on the skirt is cross-stitched on crochet, which means the entire skirt is made with single crochet (so that the spacing would be regular).

The bodice decoration is made with applique crochet as well as crochet embroidery. A gold ribbon is woven around the waist as reinforcement as well as a metal hooped petticoat underneath as the dress is very heavy – it contains around 5 kg of Ice Yarns Baby 50 yarn.
