Picasso Granny Square Pattern
- Make a slip knot, ch5, sl st in 1st chain to make a loop
1. Ch2, x8 2 insert puff stitches with ch1 in between into the loop, sl st into the chain after the first puff to finish round 1
2. Beginning double crochet (BDC)(sc, ch1) into first chain space, 3 insert cluster stitch, ch2, *4 insert cluster stitches, ch2* x7, sl st into the chain after the first cluster to finish round 2
3. BDC, 1dc, 2tc, 2dc into first chain space, *2dc, 2tc, 2dc in each chain space* x7
4. BDC into the previous BDC, ch2, 1sc in between petals, ch2, corner in between next petals: (2hdc, ch2, 2hdc), ch2, 1sc in between petals, ch2, corner in between next petals, ch2, 1sc, ch2, corner, ch2, 1sc, ch2, last corner: 2hdc, ch2, 1hdc, sl st into BDC
Picasso Blanket Pattern
Take one square and complete the border, join from the second square onwards. Make a slip knot with joining yarn, in one of the corners of the Picasso flower granny square make a bdc (sc, ch1), 1dc in same space, *ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, corner: 3dc, ch2, 3dc in corner space* repeat pattern within ** x2, ch1, 3dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, 3dc in corner, ch2, 1dc and sl st to bdc, ch1 to fasten off.
Join-as-you-go method (Joining 1 side)
Make a slip knot with joining yarn, in one of the corners of the square make a bdc, 1dc in same space, *ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, corner: 3dc, ch2, 3dc in corner space* repeat pattern within ** x1, ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, join corner: 3dc, ch1, sl st to first square corner, ch1, 3dc in corner, sl st to other square ch space, 3dc, sl st to other square ch space, 3dc, sl st to other square ch space, join corner: 3dc, ch1, sl st to first square corner, ch1, 1dc and sl st to bdc, ch1 to fasten off.
Join 8 in a row, with the 9th square join to the bottom of the first square
Join-as-you-go method (Joining 2 sides)
Make a slip knot with joining yarn, in one of the corners of the square make a bdc, 1dc in same space, ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, corner: 3dc, ch2, 3dc in corner space ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, 3dc in next ch space, ch1, join corner to square above: 3dc, ch1, sl st to first square corner, ch1, 3dc in corner, sl st to other square ch space, 3dc, sl st to other square ch space, 3dc, sl st to other square ch space, join corner to diagonally opposite square: 3dc, ch1, sl st, ch1, 3dc in corner, sl st to other square ch space, 3dc, sl st to other square ch space, 3dc, sl st to other square ch space, join corner: 3dc, ch1, sl st, ch1, 1dc and sl st to bdc, ch1 to fasten off.
Continue joining for a total of 10 rows of 8 squares each.
Border Pattern
Make a slip knot with joining yarn, join yarn with a bdc at the top of a double crochet stitch, hdc in the dc stitches, skip ch1 spaces, when you reach 2 squares joined together: hdc in the ch space, dc in between the 2 squares, hdc in the ch space, when you reach a corner: 2hdc over the 2 ch. To finish the border: sl st into the bdc, ch1 to fasten off.
Weave in all the ends, and your Picasso blanket is complete!
