Project Note:

We all have yarns left over from previous projects or from projects never started. In the current situation of cold winter Covid lockdowns, what better than to bring colour into your life with these colour changing yarns. Use your imagination: create something uniquely your own.

If you prefer to stock up with some of the wonderful Ice Yarn bargains on offer at present, rather than using stash yarns, I used 10 balls of various weight 3 DK yarns and a size 4mm hook to create the King Sized blanket.

The original complete pattern is fully described at https://www.joann.com/crochet-tree-of-life-afghan/3165880P284.html However, as is probably evident, I only used part of the described pattern to create my Tree of Life Afghan.

I used a different edging. Advice: cast on an odd number of stitches if you wish to follow my ribbed edging.

Edging: using American terms
Row 1: with right side facing, start in the right hand corner of the lower (cast on) edge: 3hdc, 1hdc into every dc of lower edge; 5hdc into corner; 2hdc into sides of each dc; 5hdc into corner; 1hdc into every dc of top edge; 5hdc into corner; 2hdc into sides of each dc; 2hdc into corner; slst into top of first hdc.
Row 2: ch3; Fptr around hdc below ch3; *(1dc; 1fptr) repeat. In 5hdc corner stitches work: 1fptr; 1dc; (1fptr; 1dc; 1fptr) in next st (corner st); 1dc; 1fptr. Repeat from * until final corner: 1fptr; 1dc; 1fptr around hdc below ch3. Slst to join.
Row 3: ch3; Fptr around dc below ch3; (1dc; 1fptr) in next st; *(1dc; 1fptr) repeat until st before corner. (1fptr; 1dc behind) in next st; corner st; (1dc; 1fptr) in next st. Repeat from * until st before final corner. (1fptr; 1dc behind) in next st; 1fptr around dc below ch3. Slst to join. Tie off.

With a little inspiration, and excellent quality Ice Yarns in stash, you too can create a stunning colourful and warm blanket
