I made this bucket bag working with 3 strands of yarn held together (cheaper, more length and often more color choice than bulky cotton yarn, and you can mix 3 color too if you want)
The bag is worked in round, starting the row with ch2 and 1dc in the first st, joining the end by slst into the 1st dc.
Crab stitch : ch1, insert hook into first st on the right, grab the yarn and pull up a loop, you now have 2 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through the 2 loops on the hook. You have your first crab stitch. Repeat these steps around to complete the row. (Check my story on my Instagram profile for a photo tuto)
Romanian cord : you can find a video tutorial on Make & Do Crew YouTube channel
With a 6mm hook (J(10)) and color 1 yarn (salmon for me), working with 3 strands of yarn
Round 1 : in a magic circle, work 12dc
Round 2 : 2dc in each st (24sts)
Round 3 : *inc - 1dc* repeat from * to * until end of round (36sts)
Round 4 : *inc - 1dc - 1dc* repeat from * to * until end of round (48sts)
Round 5 : *inc - 1dc - 1dc - 1dc* repeat from * to * until end of round (60sts)
Round 6 : *inc - 1dc - 1dc - 1dc - 1dc* repeat from * to * until end of round (72sts)
Round 7 : 72dc
Round 8 : 72dc
Round 9 : *1dc - ch1* repeat from * to * until end of round (72sts)
Round 10 to 18 ; repeat 3 times rounds 7 to 9
Continue with a 5,5mm hook (I(9))
Round 19 : 72dc
Round 20 : 72dc
Continue with a 5mm hook (J(8)) and color 2 yarn (fuschia for me) working with 2 strands of yarn using each end of the skein,
Round 21 : 72sc
Round 22 : 72 crab stitches (see explanation in project note below)
Fasten off, weave in ends
With a 3mm hook and color 2 yarn, make a 1m (39”) Romanian cord. With the front of the bag facing you, insert your cord into round 18 and weave the cord throughout the bag, skipping 2 ch1-space each time.
With a 5mm hook (J(8)) and color 1 yarn, working with 2 strands of yarn, make a Romanian cord of the desired length (here I made a 1m10 (43”) strap for a 5/6 year old girl). Attach the strap to the bag on round 19 making a bowline knot
You can customize your Camilla bag with an initial, you can find the alphabet pattern on mooglyblog.com
You can add a lining to your bucket bag : you’ll need a 17cm (6,7”) diameter circle and a 19cm x 55cm (7,5” x 21,7”) rectangle of fabric to make it.
a beginner friendly pattern and perfect gift idea for a little girl.
