Project Note:

I knitted this top for my baby girl who is 18 months old. It is a great pattern for beginner knitters who want to learn to knit in the round. This knits up quick in size 4 yarn with a few inches of ribbing in the beginning and then increasing to knit the skirt which is done completely in stockinette. To give it a pretty look I have added a picot border in the end. The pattern can be easily modified into a dress by increasing a couple of inches in the skirt. I have only made it in one size but I will try to take out some time and add more sizes to it in the future. I hope you enjoy this quick knit.

Pattern :

CO 100 stitches with yarn B in 16 inches 4 mm circular needles. Place a marker and join in the round.
Row 1: knit 1, purl 1 to the marker.
repeat row 1 to continue in ribbing until your work measures 4 inches in length.

INCREASING FOR THE SKIRT:
Change the needles to 16 inches size 5 mm circular knitting needles and change the yarn to yarn B if you want to make the skirt in a different color like I did, you can also continue with the same colour if you want.
k1, kfb continue to the marker. you will now have 150 stitches on your needles.

SKIRT:
continue knitting every row until your skirt measures 8 inches in length.

PICOT EDGE:

ROW 1: yo, k2tog to the marker
ROW 2: knit to the marker
Continue 4 more rows of knitting and then bind off.
Now fold the skirt from where you have worked the picot edge and sew the bound off row with the row of skirt corresponding to it. You will end up with a border looking like a row of cute upside down hills.

STRAPS:

There are lots of ways in which you can make the straps for this top either knitted or crocheted. I wanted to keep it simple like the rest of the top so I made a plain ribbed strap. You will need to make two straps in the following way:

CO 40 stitches with 4 mm needles.
ROW 1: Knit 1 and purl 1 to the end of the row.
ROW 2: Turn your work and Knit 1 and purl 1
continue with row 1 and row 2 and end with row 1
Bind off

Stitch the straps to the top.
